When I first heard about the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Moisturizer I thought it was going to be the skin-repairing product I needed. After all, it’s not just your regular repair, it’s a double repair product!
Overview
What is it
An oil-free moisturizer featuring ceramide-3 and niacinamide to replenishes moisture for up to 48-hours and helps restore the skin’s moisture barrier.
How I use it
As my AM moisturizer as it’s not quite hydrating enough for the evenings.
Best suited for
Normal, combo, or oily skin types. Dry skin folks might find this too light.
Things to note
It’s alcohol and fragrance-free.
Packaging
Hygienic, but the flat wide shape of the tube makes squeezing out the product more difficult as quantity decreases
Scent
No noticeable scent.
Texture
A lightweight lotion that’s easy to spread and not one bit sticky.
Finish
Natural, almost matte. May pill under certain sunscreens.
Where to buy
$19.99 for 2.5oz at Ulta, Dermstore, Target, SkinStore (25% off with code JENNY)
La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Moisturizer Ingredients
Water (La Roche-Posay Prebiotic Thermal Water), Glycerin, Dimethicone, Hydrogenated Polyisobutene, Niacinamide, Ammonium removed comma Polyacryloyldimethyl Taurate, Myristyl Myristate, Stearic Acid, Ceramide NP, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Isobutane, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Sodium Hydroxide, Myristic Acid, Palmitic Acid, Capryloyl Glycine, Caprylyl Glycol, Xanthan Gum, T-Butyl Alcohol, Acrylonitrile, Methyl Methacrylate, Vinylidene Chloride Copolymer, Tocopherol
Ceramides – A natural lipid found in our skin’s barrier, it’s crucial in helping our skin retain moisture and keeping our skin soft and plump.
Niacinamide – A true skincare superstar. It’s soothing, brightening, firming (by stimulating the production of collagen) and moisture retaining.
Prebiotic thermal water – A star ingredient in all LRP products, it contains prebiotics which can help strengthen our skin’s natural barrier, and minerals which have soothing and antioxidant properties.
You may or may not know about my undying love for ceramides and niacinamide, but they’re both well-researched proven ingredients that will be beneficial for all skin types. What’s not to love?
The rest of the ingredients don’t really stand out in a good or bad way, so let’s move on to…
Usage experience and results
At first I liked the tube packaging, mostly for hygienic reasons, but I wish they didn’t make the tube so wide and flat.
As there’s less product in the tube, it becomes increasingly harder to squeeze out the remaining product, hence the slight mess I’ve made around the opening.
As for the La Roche-Posay Double Repair Moisturizer itself, it truly is as basic as moisturizers can get. It has no scent, no color, and a light lotion-like texture.
It does absorb very quickly and doesn’t feel sticky or heavy at all on the skin. It leaves almost a matte finish, and while my skin does feel hydrated, it’s a very light layer of hydration. Great for normal/combo/oily skin, but dry skin will find it lacking.
Whenever my skin is feeling irritated or sensitive, I’ve been reaching for this moisturizer. Not because it actually repairs the skin (it doesn’t), but because it’s super gentle and won’t irritate it further. Reminds me of the First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream, except the La Roche-Posay Double Repair doesn’t even contain soothing colloidal oats.
Looking for a product that will actually heal and soothe your irritated skin? Try the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 instead!
Ironically thought it causes my favorite La Roche-Posay Anthelios XL SPF50 to pill. You’d think they’d learn to play nice since they’re from the same brand, but nope.
In the long run I haven’t noticed any specific improvements in my skin other compared to other moisturizers I’ve used in the past. I suspect that while this does contain ceramide and niacinamide, it might not contain enough for them to make a big enough impact. However, it works well to provide enough hydration in the day time without any oiliness or irritations, so I can’t complain.
Interesting enough, I found that the La Roche-Posay Toleriane Double Repair Moisturizer is actually called Toleriane Sensitive Prebiotic Moisturiser outside the US! To me this would’ve been a more accurate name – the double repair feels like a clickbait and isn’t accurate at all imo.

Overall this is a solid moisturizer, and I do enjoy using it, especially when my skin is irritated. However, the inclusion of the questionable ingredients and some of the reviews I've read on the La Roche-Posay website make me hesitant to recommend this to those with sensitive skin. All things considered, I still think this product is slightly overpriced and that there are better alternatives (from La Roche-Posay) if you're looking for a great moisturizer.
do you have any reccomendation for normal skin type with a sensitive skin other than this la roche posay moisturizer.. thankyouu!
Hi, I really like the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 when my skin is on the sensitive side. Another I’ve had good experience is the Klairs Midnight Blue Calming Cream. The First Aid Beauty Ultra Repair Cream is also lovely but for me it pills.
Does this moisturizer exfoliate at all? I’m trying to find an everyday moisturizer that doesn’t exfoliate. When I called the LRP customer service, it said the Niancinamide was for soothing. But when I see that ingredient in other skincare products (from all different brands), it ranges. One skincare product said the niancinimde exfoliated. Another skincare product said their niancinimide soothes. So does it work in differently in different percentages? Thank you!!
This does not exfoliate, and nor does niacinamide. The exfoliating product you saw contains other ingredients that exfoliates, eg. glycolic acid or lactic acid. It has nothing to do with the % of niacinamide in the product.
Hello!!! I really like your blog! My skin is sensitive and dry and it has been dificult to me to find the right moisturizer that does not cause me any irritation.. I am allergic to fragrance.. can you recommend me some moisturizers please?? Thanks a lot!!!
Thanks so much Andrea, so glad to hear that! I actually really like the LRP Cicaplast Baume B5 which is fragrance-free and gray for soothing sensitive skin. Klairs also makes a nice moisturizer that’s fragrance-free that I really enjoyed using. Hope this helps!
Hm, sounds not that exciting. At first I mentally put it on my to-try list, niacin amide is among my favorite ingredients as well, but now… But to be fair, moisturizers rarely excite me.

It really is about as basic as moisturizers can get, which isn’t a bad thing, but it’s not as gentle as I’d like it to be either. Perhaps if they included a higher % of niacinamide I think I’d like it more.
I haven’t heard too much about this product although the Toleriane range seems to be quite popular! At that price, I’d rather go to some niche skincare brands on some of the lower price point products in the range! It’s too bad that they’ve included those questionable ingredients – would have loved if they had two options (i.e. one for sensitive skin!)
I think this is a relatively new product in the range, and I’m wondering if it’s a US-only release. I agree with you as well, it really doesn’t excel in any one area to justify the price. I believe the rest of the Toleriane range is pretty safe for sensitive skin though!
Shame that this didn’t quite live up to your expectation. :-( and you just reminded me that I need to buy a new sunscreen, I am torn between getting LRP Anthelios XL or Naruko Peptide spf50. Maybe I should get both, eh? :-P
It’s one of those moisturizers that’s good, but not really great at anything, so it’s hard to really fall in love with it :/ I actually have both of the SPF and I use the LRP for when I’ll be outdoors and the Naruko for indoor days. The Naruko one dries down to a pretty matte finish which is great for my combo skin!
