After a disastrous experience with the By Wishtrend Green Tea & Enzyme Powder Wash where my skin pretty much molted, I was in need of some desperate barrier repair. The stars must’ve been aligned because I had just received this cream a few days before and this was the perfect occasion to test it out. Trust me, my skin needed a lot of help.
- What is it
- A gel that helps calm and regenerate damaged skin while preventing acne scars.
- How I use it
- Very generously at the end of my routine, patting it on my red peeling skin.
- Best suited for
- Normal to oily skin types due to its super light texture. Will still work for dry skin types, but you’ll want to keep your moisturizer in your routine.
- Irritants
- None, but it does contain dimethicone high on the list so keep that in mind if that breaks you out.
- Packaging
- A squeeze tube that gives you precise control over the amount used each time. Simple, sanitary, no complaints here.
- Scent
- None
- Texture
- Like a silky silicone-based primer, probably due to its high dimethicone content
- Finish
- Smooth and matte, it as if you’ve applied primer to your skin. No issues with pilling either.
- Available At
- Wishtrend for $27.50/30ml
Ingredient Analysis
Water, Dipropylene Glycol, Glyceryl Stearate SE, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Cyclopentasiloxane, Ethyl Hexanediol, Cyclohexasiloxane, Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, Asiatic Acid, Tromethamine, Carbomer, Xanthan Gum, Glyceryl Caprylate, Allantoin, Disodium EDTA
When it comes to soothing ingredients, centella asiatica is one of my favorite to see in a product – it’s well researched and my skin reacts wonderfully to it. While the By Wishtrend TECA 1% Barrier Cream doesn’t explicitly list centella asiatica extract as an ingredient, it does list Asiaticoside, Madecassic Acid, and Asiatic Acid, all of which are compounds found in centella asiatica extract (sooo… centella asiatica extract extracts? ???? ) responsible for calming and repairing the skin. Together they form TECA, which this cream contains a 1% solution of. Other notable skin-repairing ingredients include:
- Dimethicone – While it doesn’t have any healing properties, it’s a great emollient that forms a protective barrier over the skin to prevent moisture loss, a common problem when your natural skin barrier is damaged.
- Allantoin – A great skin-soothing and repairing ingredient. It’s often used to treat dry, itchy skin or any minor skin irritations (eg. rashes or burns)
The overall ingredient list is fairly simple, which is what you want when your skin is already irritated. Nothing stands out as being horrible, though nothing else stand out as being great either.
TECA 1% Barrier Cream vs Cicaplast Baume B5
Several bloggers have commented on how well this works to help heal their skin post-breakout, but since I had no breakouts I used it mainly to repair my over-exfoliated skin. Usually I’d reach for my trusty La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5, but I wanted to see how the TECA 1% Barrier Cream compared.
Texture wise it wins hands down, providing a smooth silky feel on the skin couldn’t be more different from the thicker and much oilier Cicaplast Baume B5. While it didn’t irritate my raw skin when applied, my skin still looked red and felt itchy the next morning, albeit not as bad as before. It’s also not hydrating enough on its own, I definitely need to layer my usual moisturizer underneath, otherwise my skin feels dry and tight the next morning.
After a few days I was getting impatient with the slow results and reached for the Cicaplast Baume B5 and bam, the redness and itchiness were 90% gone the next day. Yes I know the is not the way you compare two products, but based on this and past experiences (I really need to work on NOT irritating my skin so frequently in 2018…), I personally find theLa Roche-Posay balm much better at actually calming and repairing damaged skin.
I think in mild skin irritation cases or treating acne the TECA 1% Barrier Cream would be enough. It certainly feels more comfortable and provides a much more elegant finish, whereas the Cicaplast Baume B5 can feel thick and leave a shiny white cast, so you can’t really use it during the day. Between the two I still prefer Cicaplast Baume B5 because it’s half the price and just gets the job done much quicker. But if damaged skin isn’t a major concern of yours, I do think you’ll enjoy the overall experience of the TECA 1% Barrier Cream more. (Though in that case I’m not sure why you’d even need the cream then? ¯\_(ツ)_/¯)
Final Verdict

- Ingredients8/10

- Performance4/10
- Price7/10
I had really high hopes for this, but in the end the product fell short of my expectations. While I do think it's pleasant to use, I don't think the value is there considering that it's not as effective at repairing the skin as other more affordable options. Usually I love my calming products, but sadly this one just didn't quite cut it for me, and I would not be repurchasing.
I feel like my not-so-positive opinions of this cream is in the minority as others seem to really enjoy it, albeit for treating acne and not for repairing large areas of damaged skin. But hopefully you still enjoyed the review and found it helpful! Lastly, I wish you all a very merry Christmas, and I’ll be back before the end of the year with another favorites post! ❤️
PS. Have you read my 2017 in review – favorite beauty discoveries post yet? There’s a surprise for you guys at the end!
I just posted my review (it was sent to me as well), and it took me so long because I was on the fence about it! I keep seeing everyone loving it, but I didn’t notice anything like you, so I’m glad I’m not alone!
I am looking for something like this. Thank you for sharing your opinion on this product. I personally love it because of the effect on acne scars and redness. I didn’t really fancy the powder wash but will definitely give it a go still.

Oh my goodness – I can’t imagine getting a reaction like that and I am so sorry that happened to you! I appreciate your honesty in sharing your experience and I’m glad you found something that worked to heal your skin! I’ve heard only amazing things about the Cicaplast (I bought it and keep it for “emergencies”) so I’m glad it worked out!

I actually don’t mind the not so positive review. What’s important is you were honest about the whole experience. I had a breakout last Christmas vacation because of the sudden change in my skin care routine (was staying at my parents’ place and I forgot my skincare products). My skin is still healing from the breakout right now, but I wish this product is available locally in case something like that happens again. I think, based on your review, and what other people about the product, it’s best for simple breakouts. :)

Oh my gosh Jenny! So sorry you experienced such a reaction! I’ve been there. So glad the La Roche Posay worked.

Thanks for this review! I am looking for something to help with my acne scars and redness. I was trying to decide between the TECA Cream and the Cicaplast Baume, so this is helpful!
I Love how you set out your reviews!

Thanks for the introduction.

Thanks for the honest review Jenny! I agree it isn’t enough for dry skin. I haven’t noticed it doing much for me other than a light coat of protection but I just tried it on a little mini breakout along my jawline (which I think is actually purging from vitamin C) so hopefully it will help!
OMG! So sorry to hear about what happened to your skin! I haven’t updated my review on By Wishtrend Powder Wash yet because I stopped using it, I’m too impatient. I want something ready to apply on my face. Anyway, I think we both agreed that the calming effect of Teca 1% cream on red skin is not that effective. But I actually used this last Thursday throughout the weekend after I had an Advance Anti-Acne Facial. My esthecian gave me a calming/cooling face mask after the facial so I didn’t end up with red skin, however, I ended with a lot of tiny painful dots from pricking. And for the second time, I’m saying this cream really do work on post-acne. I spent Christmas with a pain-free and smoother-looking skin :D
Merry Christmas and Wishing you all a magical and blissful holiday! ❤

I’m a big fan of the La Roche-Posay Cicaplast Baume B5 for skin irritations so it was interesting to read you thoughts on how this compares. I’d expect better considering the ingredients and the price but I guess i’ll just stick to the LRP which I actually had to use last week after experiencing a reaction to a new product I’m testing. Thank goodness it’s such a skin saver!
Happy Holidays to you and your family Jenny! Stay warm, be safe and have lots of fun :D
I know the LRP cream is brilliant as it helps to heal Little Tyke’s skin when he scratches his eczema until bleed but I have never used it for myself. I actually love this TECA Barrier cream but as for spot treatment and to heal my skin after I naughtily pop a pimple. LOL!
Shireen⎜Reflection of Sanity
It actually felt weird using it on my face initially because it’s quite thick, but after a while the texture grew on me! I’ll have to try the TECA cream after I pop a pimple next time, maybe I’ll like it more then! ????
Thank you for sharing your opinion on this product! I personally love it and the effect it has on my acne and acne scars!
Love,

So glad to hear that! That seems to be the general consensus for this product, so I think I’ll pass it along to friends who have acne/acne scarring issues as it’d probably be a better fit for them :)
That cream sounds really good!

I passed on this one, as I didn´t feel it was suited towards my skin type. And like you I wasn´t really convinced by the powder wash either, though I didn´t have that harsh a reaction to it.

I thought it would be a good fit for me based on the description, though really the “cream” is more like a gel than anything else, so that was disappointing. I suspect th harsh reaction is due to my skin getting significantly drier during winter, but even without this incident, I’m still not a fan of the wash :(
